QMA Course Format & Eligibility Requirements

This hybrid QMA course includes one in-person session, held on a scheduled Saturday for 8 hours. The remainder of the course is delivered online.

Note: This program is best suited for self-motivated learners. If you prefer a traditional classroom setting, we recommend waiting for our fully in-person QMA class option.

Throughout the program, students will gain proficiency in key areas such as:

  • Proper medication handling techniques
  • Reading and interpreting prescription labels
  • Passing and ordering medications
  • Understanding basic pharmacological principles

This training not only builds essential clinical skills but also fosters confidence and competence in medication-related care practices.

Eligibility Criteria for Enrollment

To enroll in the QMA (Qualified Medication Aide) course, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold an active CNA certification
    AND have at least 1,000 hours of CNA work experience within the past two years
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or GED
  • Be in good standing on the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) Aide Registry

 

Course Structure & Certification Process (Indiana Requirement)

In the state of Indiana, prospective QMAs must complete a state-approved 100-hour training program, which includes:

  • 60 hours of classroom instruction
  • 40 hours of hands-on clinical experience

After successfully completing the course, students are eligible to take the QMA written certification exam, which is administered through Ivy Tech Community College.
